Lars Danielsson is as of today, November 7, taking up the position as Permanent Representative of Sweden to the European Union. Lars Danielsson arrives in Brussels from Berlin where he has served as the Ambassador to Germany.
- I hope I can contribute to making Sweden's voice in Europe stronger but also to demonstrate to our partners the strong commitment of Sweden to European values and goals, says Lars Danielsson, when asked to reflect on his coming tasks.
Lars Danielsson has long-term experience serving both in the Governmental Offices in Stockholm as the Prime Minister's State Secretary and in the Foreign Service abroad. Among others, he has in addition to Germany, also served at the Swedish Embassies in Peking, the Republic of Korea, and Missions to the UN and International Organizations in Geneva.
What in particular do you bring from your most recent posting as Ambassador to Germany?
- From Berlin, I bring a clear sense of the need to have a reasonable balance between the European institutions in Brussels and the capitals of the member states, says Lars Danielsson.
- We all, including Germany and Sweden, benefit from European institutions that work well. But when working in Brussels, Lars Danielsson adds, it is tremendously important to always remind oneself from where the mandate of our endeavours comes.
Lars Danielsson is replacing Anders Ahnlid who is today taking up the position as Ambassador of Sweden to Finland.
As Permanent Representative of Sweden to the European Union, Lars Danielsson is the Head of the EU-representation in Brussels and the Swedish representative in Coreper-II.
