Sweden-South Korea Joint Committee Meeting in Science and Technology

The 2nd of June the Ministry of Education and Research welcomed the Korean Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning with the purpose of hosting the 2nd Sweden-South Korea Joint Committee Meeting in Science and Technology.

The Korean delegation visited Sweden between the 1st and 3d of June in order to promote the Swedish-Korean bilateral relationship in the area of Research and Innovation. The visit was very successful. During the visit The Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Lund University and KTH. KIC-Europe also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with RISE.

Swedish Research Council and the National Research Foundation of Korea agreed that their next field of cooperation is Drug Discovery research through cell differentiation control.

Both countries further agreed to consider developing some of the established cooperation further, for example in the field of polar research.

In addition the visit consisted of a workshop on Climate Change organised by the Swedish Research Council and an Innovation workshop organised by Vinnova. The delegation also had the opportunity to make study visits at SciLifeLab at Karolinska Institutet and at Stockholm Things at KTH.

”The great attendance and the and the progressive spirit at the Joint Committee Meeting with South Korea shows that the bilateral cooperation in the area of Science and Technology between our countries is very good” says Mats Johnsson, Deputy Director at the Division for Research Policy at the Ministry of Education and Research.
