Sweden’s new export strategy has been developed in close collaboration with the business sector. In the strategy, the Government addresses the challenges facing Swedish exports with a large number of concrete measures.

Sweden’s export strategy
The Swedish export strategy is to help achieve the Government’s overall objective of Sweden having the lowest unemployment rate in the EU by 2020. The goals in the strategy are to: Increase exports, both in absolute figures and as a proportion of GDP; Increase Sweden’s attractiveness for investments, expertise and Tourists; Increase the proportion of exporting enterprises; and Increase Swedish enterprises’ participation in the global economy.

Compared with other countries’ export growth, it is clear that Sweden can perform better. Of Sweden’s exports, 70 per cent go to the EU internal market. Trade with our closest neighbours is very significant and important to our economy. But trade in the internal market must be supplemented so that Sweden as an export nation does not lose market shares.

Swedish businesses wanting to enter the export market regard current export support as confusing, given the various government agencies, companies and boards involved. Team Sweden has consequently been tasked with coordinating export support and making things simple and straightforward for companies wanting to enter the export market. As its first destination, Team Sweden recently visited Brazil.

More Swedish enterprises will participate in and win procurements of goods and services at the major international organisations, such as the United Nations, international financial institutions and the European Union. This is one of the Swedish export strategy measures being launched on Monday.
