Sweden to participate in Operation Highmast in the Indo-Pacific region

The Government has decided to contribute staff officers from the Swedish Armed Forces to Operation Highmast, a British-led multinational Carrier Strike Group deployment that will operate in the Indo-Pacific region to uphold regional security.
A Swedish staff officer will be stationed aboard a warship in the Operation, and it will be possible for up to two staff officers to participate simultaneously in the case of a personnel rotation.
The Government has authorised staff officers from the Swedish Armed Forces to join the Operation from 1 April 2025 until its conclusion or 31 December 2025, whichever comes first.
Developments in the Indo-Pacific region are increasingly affecting security in the Euro-Atlantic region, which includes Sweden.
“It is in Sweden’s interests to enhance defence cooperation with partner countries in the Indo-Pacific region. This increases our activity and enables us to gather additional knowledge of the security dynamic in the area,” says Minister for Defence Pål Jonson.
In mid-2024, the Government adopted a defence policy direction for cooperation with partner countries in the Indo-Pacific region, of which military presence is one of three focus areas.
