Sweden condemns executions in Iran

Published

Sweden strongly condemns the executions that have been carried out in Iran in relation to the ongoing protests. Sweden and other EU Member States are always opposed to the death penalty, at all times and under all circumstances.

At a meeting on 15 December, the European Council discussed a coordinated approach of summoning Iranian ambassadors. Sweden acted early and summoned the Iranian Ambassador in Stockholm in late December to convey Sweden and the EU’s clear condemnation of the death sentences and executions connected to the protests.

Sweden and the EU also condemn the two additional executions that have been carried out since then.
