Sub-target 4: An even division of unpaid housework and care work
Published
The Government’s fourth gender equality policy sub-target is ‘An even distribution of unpaid housework and care work’. Women and men must have the same responsibility for housework and have the opportunity to give and receive care on equal terms.
The sub-target on an even division of unpaid housework and care work not only includes the distribution of unpaid work between a heterosexual couple in a household, but concerns the distribution of unpaid work between women and men at societal level.
The target also includes unpaid domestic work, and care of children, old people and other close relatives. The target includes both those who provide care and those who receive it. Domestic work refers to domestic and maintenance work carried out in the home. Paid care of the elderly and children is covered by the sub-target 5 on gender-equal health.
