Sweden has become a member of the Global Coalition on Telecommunications (GCOT). It is a global coalition of countries that jointly drive policy development in telecommunications. In connection to Sweden joining the coalition, the members of GCOT launched Security and Resilience Principles for 6G, which Sweden endorses.

Sweden’s AI Strategy sets the long-term direction of the Government’s work with AI. It also provides guidance for work with AI throughout Sweden. The Government adopted the Strategy in February 2026.

Sweden aims to take a leading role in artificial intelligence. The Government is now presenting a new AI strategy with the aim of providing more effective government agencies, clearer rules for businesses and better conditions for research. The objective is for Sweden to be among the world’s top 10 countries in the field of AI.

The Government has today received an inquiry report on the possibility of countries outside the EU to take part in public procurements of municipalities, regions and government agencies. This memorandum includes proposals on amendments to public procurement legislation with the aim of protecting national interests and ensuring harmonisation with EU law.

The Government is investing more than SEK 5 billion to strengthen the Swedish Armed Forces’ anti-drone capabilities and expand JAS 39 Gripen capabilities. The investment in anti-drone capabilities will enable the Swedish Armed Forces to shorten its lead times by eight years. The previous 2036 deadline for final delivery will now be brought forward to 2028. This decision will also enhance the resilience of the combat air system in times of peace, crisis and war. It marks the first use of the funds allocated in the Spring Amending Budget for ‘opportune purchases’.

Sweden is already one of the world’s most digitalised countries, and Swedish government agencies have now started using AI to improve both the efficiency and quality of their work.

The upcoming Digital Networks Act (DNA) including a revision of the directive establishing the European Electronic Communications Code (the Code) presents an opportunity to accomplish simplification and efficiency, benefits for and protection of end-users, and harmonisation. The endgame should be a secure, reliable and available digital infrastructure, as well as strengthening the EU’s competitiveness, resilience, investments and innovation.

Today, in conjunction with the European Commission reviewing the EU public procurement directives, Minister for Public Administration Erik Slottner conveyed Sweden’s preliminary positions to the commissioner responsible for public procurement issues.

The Government is announcing a new action plan for an inclusive and equal society. The action plan aims to further strengthen efforts to support rights and opportunities for LGBTIQ people by consolidating, supplementing and mobilising these efforts.

The Government has been presented with the AI Commission’s proposals for measures to help strengthen the development and use of artificial intelligence (AI) in Sweden.

In a joint statement, the Nordic and Baltic Ministers of Digitalisation emphasised the importance of enhanced cooperation concerning underwater infrastructure for electronic communication.

In connection with the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sweden and Colombia, Minister for Public Administration Erik Slottner is visiting Colombia this week. The aim of his visit is to further develop cooperation on digitalisation and cybersecurity, and to present Sweden as an innovative, sustainable country in the area of digitalisation, with an advanced security approach.

Sweden has signed a joint statement on principles for the development of the future 6G policies. The statement was presented on 27 February 2024 in connection with the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. It includes an agreement on common principles that will guide research and development of future 6G policies both domestically and internationally.

The telecommunications ministers of Finland, Estonia and Sweden stress that the resilience of critical underwater infrastructure is now more important than ever. The ministers underlined the importance of resilient infrastructure at the Telecommunications Council in Brussels 5 December 2023.

Yesterday evening, the Government received the alarming news that two Swedes were killed in a terrorist attack in Brussels. The attack appears to have been aimed at Sweden and Swedish interests. Our thoughts are with the deceased and their relatives.
