Biography
Daniel Westlén was born in 1976 and lives in Stockholm. He has his doctor's degree in reactor physics from KTH, Royal Institute of Technology.
Since October 2022, Dr. Daniel Westlén serves as state secretary to Romina Pourmokhtari, the Swedish minister for Climate and the Environment. He is personally engaged in environmental situation in the Baltic Sea. The preservation of biodiversity and the protection of people against harmful substances are also motivating him.
With electricity and heat decarbonised since long back, his focus in the climate field is to put conditions in place for the decarbonisation of transport and industry, mainly a fossil-free expansion of the power system and efficient licensing processes.
Dr. Westlén has his PhD in fast neutron physics. He has previously worked in the Swedish power utility Vattenfall, including in its subsidiaries the Forsmark nuclear power plant and the Swedish nuclear waste management company, SKB. He spent most of his time developing strategy and investment plans for the company’s nuclear and hydro power fleets.
