Reduced environmental impact from the fashion and textile industry
Published
Through the Global Environment Facility (GEF), Sweden contributes to a programme that reduces the environmental impact of the fashion and textile industry in Cambodia, India, Pakistan and elsewhere.
The GEF supports a programme that promotes sustainable design, develops substitutes for non-renewable materials, and contributes to resource-efficient production, responsible sourcing behaviour and improved collection after use. The programme includes eight countries: Cambodia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, India, Mongolia, Pakistan, Peru and Trinidad and Tobago. It is expected to help strengthen cooperation between countries and regions and strengthen local economies. The programme is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about six million tonnes and hazardous chemicals by 18 750 tonnes, and restore 825 000 hectares of land and ecosystems.
