Published

The Government has appointed Jakob Wernerman as Sida’s Acting Deputy Director-General. He took up the post on 16 April 2026.

"Mr Wernerman has extensive experience at Sida, most recently as Head of Department for Humanitarian Operations. This builds on his background in international development cooperation, which includes positions at the World Food Programme (WFP), the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF). Together with Acting Director-General Hanna Hellquist, Mr Wernerman will lead Sida’s continued transition efforts until a permanent Director-General is appointed,” says Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Benjamin Dousa.

Mr Wernerman has long experience in humanitarian assistance, including from WFP, OCHA and UNICEF. He also held several managerial roles at the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) and served as Sida’s Deputy Head of Department for Asia, Middle East and Humanitarian Assistance from 2021 to 2024. His most recent role was Head of Department for Humanitarian Operations.

Mr Wernerman will hold the position of Acting Deputy Director-General until further notice, but only until Ms Hellquist returns to her position as Director-General.
