A new nuclear chapter for Sweden

Published

For over a century, Sweden and the Nordic-Baltic countries have built energy systems that powered prosperity, independence, and competitiveness. Now, the region aims to build new nuclear power to secure electricity for families, for industry, and to strengthen competitiveness and security.

As part of this initiative, Sweden, together with Finland, hosted the Nordic-Baltic Nuclear Investment Summit in Stockholm. Governments, investors and industry leaders came together with one goal: to accelerate the next wave of nuclear buildout. The meeting took place on 6–7 October.

The Swedish government has implemented a series of reforms to enable new nuclear power. These include:

  • introducing a new financing model with state backed loans
  • predictable revenues for investors
  • faster permitting processes

The government now welcomes partnerships across the global nuclear value chain.

The message is simple: Sweden is open for business.
