On Friday 6 February, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson invited the leaders of all parties represented in the Riksdag to attend a briefing for a status report on the activities being undertaken by the Swedish Government and Swedish government agencies to protect the 2026 general elections against malign information influence. The briefing was also attended by Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard, Minister for Justice Gunnar Strömmer, Minister for Civil Defence Carl-Oskar Bohlin and Minister for Culture Parisa Liljestrand.

The current security situation, rapid pace of technological developments and experience from other elections in Europe have highlighted a need to increase resilience to malign information influence ahead of the general elections on 13 September 2026. The Swedish Government and Swedish government agencies are engaged in extensive activities aimed at protecting the Swedish elections. Ensuring that the elections are conducted without malign information influence is a concern shared by all parties.
The briefing included presentations by the Election Authority, the Swedish Security Service and the Psychological Defence Agency.
