The First Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children
Every year, half of the world’s children are subjected to various forms of violence. On 7–8 November, the first global ministerial conference on this topic will be held in Colombia’s capital, Bogotá. The Swedish Government is co-hosting the conference, together with the Government of Colombia, the World Health Organization, UNICEF and the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence Against Children.

Karin Tegmark Wisell apppointed as Sweden’s Ambassador for Global Health
The Government’s new reform agenda, ‘Development assistance for a new era – freedom, empowerment and sustainable growth’, has a particular focus on improved health for the most vulnerable people. Initiatives are needed to improve prospects of good health, ensure functioning health and medical care systems, and strengthen preparedness, in order to better address health threats at global level. Sweden has an important role to play in these efforts.

Sweden invests in sustainable growth and mobilises new capital for green and digital transition
Sweden is a leading donor of development assistance, but meeting the funding needs for a green and digital transition requires closer cooperation between development assistance and trade, greater mobilisation of private capital and harnessing the business sector’s innovation capacity. A current example of this is Sweden’s partnership with Bangladesh, which HRH Crown Princess Victoria visited together with Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Johan Forssell on 18–21 March.

HRH Crown Princess Victoria visits Bangladesh with Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Johan Forssell
The visit to Bangladesh will take place on 18–21 March on the occasion of HRH The Crown Princess’s role as Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNDP Assistant Secretary General Ulrika Modéer will also take part.

Sweden’s work on global health – implementing the 2030 Agenda
The 2030 Agenda offers us a new opportunity to influence and help improve the health situation for people in Sweden and globally. By acting globally, we create conditions for positive developments in our own country while also contributing to, and taking responsibility for, positive developments in the world at large. The document Sweden’s work on global health seeks to bring together and consolidate existing strategies, priorities and policies with the aim of setting out a clear and common agenda and creating the conditions for more effective communications, increased collaboration and, ultimately, more impactful Swedish action.

Policy for global development in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, Skr. 2017/18:146
In the communication, the Government reports on, for example, its work on the policy for global development (PGD) during the years 2016–2017 within the scope of the 2030 Agenda and its Global Goals. The 17 goals and 169 targets are universal and indivisible and integrate the three dimensions of sustainable development: economic, social and environmental.

Strategy for Sweden’s development cooperation in the areas of human rights, democracy and the rule of law 2018–2022
The Swedish Government has adopted a new strategy for human rights, democracy and the rule of law that will apply to Swedish development cooperation between 2018 and 2022. The overall objective of the strategy is to contribute to secure, just and inclusive democratic societies that protect and respect the equal rights of all. The strategy will apply in 2018–2022 and covers the funds allocated in the appropriation directions of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and Folke Bernadotte Academy for each budget year.
