The National Archives

The National Archives is the administrative authority for archive issues and has special responsibility for state archives and for the preservation and administration of archives around the country. Among other things, it is responsible for drawing up regulations and general guidelines on archive management. The National Archives is also responsible for the State's heraldic activity and for ensuring that the rules concerning the Swedish flag are observed. It also houses the regional state archives and the Military Archives. Regional state archives are located in Gothenburg, Härnösand, Lund, Uppsala, Vadstena, Visby and Östersund. The City Archives of Stockholm and Malmö and Värmland Archives perform certain tasks on behalf of the National Archives.
