The Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, or Kongl. Swenska Witterhets Academien, was founded by Queen Lovisa Ulrika in 1753. Now called the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities, or Vitterhetsakademien.

It's main mission is to promote and provide funding for research in the areas of the humanities, social sciences and cultural heritage management.

The Academy collaborates with international scientific organisations and foreign academies.
