Press release from Prime Minister's Office

Prime Minister Stefan Löfven to visit Jordan

Published

On Sunday 14 August, Prime Minister Stefan Löfven will travel to Jordan for discussions on the refugee situation and other current regional issues. On Monday 15 August, Mr Löfven will have talks with Jordan's Prime Minister Hani Mulki, visit refugee camps with the responsible UN organisations and take part in a seminar on job creation for young people.

Jordan is one of the countries in the world that has received the most immigrants from Syria. Sweden is pushing for greater efforts to create jobs for these refugees in neighbouring countries such as Jordan and to enable displaced children to attend school. Sweden's contribution to the Syria crisis is extensive, including financial support to the region amounting to SEK 1.7 billion over a five-year period and SEK 2.2 billion in humanitarian aid to date.

Prior notification of attendance is required via email to Press Secretary Erik Nises no later than 8 August. For more information on the programme, and for questions about visas and logistics, please contact Erik Nises.
