Deeper business cooperation with Singapore

“It is gratifying to see that our countries’ cooperation is now being translated into further concrete action. The role of policy is to create favourable conditions for companies, but it is business that has innovative power, that creates jobs and that drives the green transition forward,” says Ms Busch. 

An MoU on energy was signed in conjunction with Sweden’s State Visit to Singapore in November 2024. That agreement laid the foundations for deeper cooperation in energy and innovation.

MoU on green ammonia

An MoU between Siemens Energy AB and Keppel will see the companies jointly promote the use of green ammonia to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from electricity production.

Ms Busch and Singapore’s Deputy Minister of Energy Gan Siow Huang were present when the companies signed the agreement. In a speech made at the signing, Ms Busch stressed that cooperation between the two countries’ governments has been crucial in creating the right conditions for the project to move forward smoothly and swiftly. 

The Swedish Energy Agency recently awarded a grant of almost SEK 41 million to Siemens Energy AB specifically for the development of ammonia turbines. This is one of the technologies that Singapore’s energy authority has sought as it plans a secure and sustainable energy supply for Singapore. The fact that the collaboration is now in place shows that Sweden is a strong player in the green transition and innovation internationally. 

Ms Busch also met with Singapore’s Minister of Energy Tan See Leng the day after the agreement was signed. 

MoU on quantum technology

The MoU between the National Quantum Office and around 10 Swedish universities and research institutes aims to promote cooperation around research and development in quantum technology. Particular focus will be placed on strengthening links to business through national programmes, and on promoting research collaborations. This can involve joint calls for tenders as well as research exchanges.
