On 17 March, Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard signed the Pax Silica Declaration in connection with her visit to Houston, Texas. The initiative brings together leading technology nations and aims to strengthen cooperation to secure supply chains for emerging technologies. Pax Silica will also help promote innovation, secure digital infrastructure and protect sensitive technologies.
“Sweden is a leading innovation country with a strong research base and world-leading companies. This cooperation will help enhance our competitiveness and sharpen our technical cutting-edge expertise,” says Ms Malmer Stenergard.
The Pax Silica initiative was launched by the US in December 2025. So far, a dozen countries have joined, including Australia, India, Japan, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.
Pax Silica involves closer cooperation between countries that have complementary resources and capabilities. These include connectivity, critical minerals, semiconductors and energy, which are crucial for the continued development of AI technology and secure digital infrastructure. The initiative mobilises capital and investment to strengthen industrial capacity and secure supply chains with like-minded countries.
“Cooperation with the United States and other leading countries in AI and emerging technologies is vital to Sweden as an export-oriented innovation country. Sweden’s security and prosperity benefit from close cooperation with other countries,” says Ms Malmer Stenergard.
