Focus on Ukraine, NATO and Middle East as Maria Malmer Stenergard attends NB8 meeting in Estonia

Published

Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard is attending a meeting of Nordic-Baltic foreign ministers (NB8) in Kuressaare, Estonia, on 29–30 April. The agenda includes support to Ukraine, constraining Russia’s aggression in the region, boosting European security, current NATO issues and developments in the Middle East.

“I look forward to discussing with my colleagues how together, the NB8 countries can continue to strive for increased support to Ukraine and address the threat from Russia,” says Ms Malmer Stenergard.

Estonia is coordinating the NB8 cooperation format and the foreign ministers are meeting to discuss the countries’ joint role in supporting Ukraine and constraining the threat posed by Russia. They will also discuss priorities ahead of the meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Helsingborg in May and the NATO Summit in Ankara in July, as well as developments in the Middle East and their economic and security implications. High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas will also attend parts of the meeting.

About the NB8

The NB8 is an informal forum for Nordic-Baltic cooperation on foreign and security policy, comprising Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden. The eight members take turns coordinating its work. Estonia has this role in 2026. Sweden coordinated the NB8 in 2024.
