Press release from Prime Minister's Office

Ulf Kristersson to receive Prime Minister of India in Gothenburg

Published

On 17 May, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson will receive Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi in Gothenburg. During the visit, the leaders will hold bilateral meetings and participate in discussions with European business leaders on innovation and trade. Mr Kristersson and Mr Modi will also hold joint press statements, together with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. HRH The Crown Princess will also participate in the programme.

With the world’s largest population and one of its fastest-growing economies, India is already one of the most important markets for Swedish companies in Asia. The recently agreed Free Trade Agreement between the European Union and India is an important step towards enhanced cooperation, increasing both Sweden’s and India’s competitiveness.

The longstanding cooperation between Sweden and India, combining Sweden’s strengths in innovation and India’s rapid technological development, creates many opportunities for expanded cooperation on trade, space and innovation. The purpose of the visit is to consolidate and develop the close relations between Sweden and India.

The programme includes bilateral talks and local visits related to Swedish industry and innovation.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard, along with India’s Minister for External Affairs Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, will also participate in the programme.
