New minimum wage level for labour immigration and stricter requirements for family member immigration
The Government and the Sweden Democrats today presented a new agreement to adjust the wage level for labour immigration to 90 per cent of the median wage in Sweden. The cooperation parties also plan to set out stricter requirements for family member immigration. The Government and the Sweden Democrats have additionally announced an upcoming inquiry aimed at curtailing abuses.

Government appoints inquiry on parallel social structures
The Government has decided to appoint an inquiry to deepen knowledge about parallel social structures that among other things consist of clans and family-based networks. The inquiry will define the impacts of such groups in terms of integration and exclusion in Sweden. The aim is to develop in-depth knowledge that will improve efforts to counteract parallel social structures and contribute to a safer, and a more cohesive Sweden.

Government funds survey on Swedish values
The Government has decided to grant SEK 5 million to the World Values Survey (WVS) to carry out yet another survey on values and social norms in Sweden, with a specific focus on foreign born. The aim, among other things, is to improve and develop ways of monitoring integration.

Prime Minister receives Ukrainian President Zelenskyy
Today, 22 October, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson is receiving Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for a meeting in Sweden. Following their meeting, Mr Kristersson and President Zelenskyy will hold a joint press conference to make an announcement in the area of defence exports.

The Government presents defence investments for a stronger Sweden
(New version) The prevailing security situation is more serious than it has been in several decades, and Russia constitutes a multi-dimensional threat to Sweden. The Government is therefore implementing historic investments in defence. Together with previous budgetary expansions, appropriations increase by SEK 26.6 billion in the Budget Bill for 2026. This corresponds to an increase of 18 per cent over 2025. These proposals and increases broadly strengthen Sweden’s defence capability.

Government earmarks SEK 100 million to civil society in Ukraine and its neighbourhood
The Government is strengthening its support to civil society organisations in Ukraine and its neighbourhood by earmarking SEK 100 million within the Strategy for Sweden’s Development Cooperation with Civil Society in 2025–2029.

Major Swedish contribution for military support package to Ukraine
Sweden will contribute USD 275 million – approximately SEK 2.7 billion – for a military support package to Ukraine. At a press conference on 5 August, the Government announced that Sweden will finance an entire support package of US military materiel, together with Denmark and Norway.
