Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Infrastructure and Housing visit South Korea

On 15–17 October, Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard and Minister for Infrastructure and Housing Andreas Carlson travelled to Seoul in conjunction with Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel’s visit to South Korea.

During the visit to Seoul, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel, Ms Malmer Stenergard and Mr Carlson were received by South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Prime Minister Kim Min-seok. Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel and Mr Carlson also attended the Sustainable Partnership Summit to promote exchanges in the areas of green transition, energy and strategic technologies. At the Summit, Mr Carlson addressed an investors’ breakfast and opened a roundtable discussion on energy issues between Swedish and Korean businesses. Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel and Mr Carlson also visited the City of Busan to highlight the 75th anniversary of a field hospital established by Sweden in 1950 during the Korean War. 

Ms Malmer Stenergard’s bilateral discussions with South Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun on 16 October covered bilateral and international issues, including Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. They also discussed security and defence cooperation, as the security Europe and that of the Indo-Pacific Region are becoming increasingly interlinked. Ms Malmer Stenergard also visited the Swedish Delegation to the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission.

Mr Carlson led a Team Sweden delegation comprising representatives of the business sector, focusing on green transition and strategic technologies.
