Prime Minister hosts Nordic Prime Minister meeting attended by the President of the European Commission

On 28 October, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson received his Nordic counterparts for a Nordic Council of Ministers prime ministers meeting in Stockholm. Topics of discussion included Nordic supply preparedness, Nordic and European competitiveness and Nordic and European security. President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen participated in parts of the meeting.

    In connection with the meeting, the Nordic prime ministers and heads of government adopted a declaration on the importance of Nordic cooperation based on the Nordic countries’ strengths as democracies, economies and shared values.

Alongside Mr Kristersson and Ms von der Leyen, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, the Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands Aksel V. Johannesen, Icelandic Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Åland’s Head of Government Katrin Sjögren and the Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers Karen Ellemann participated in the meeting.

In connection with the meeting, the Nordic prime ministers and heads of government adopted a declaration on the importance of Nordic cooperation based on the Nordic countries’ strengths as democracies, economies and shared values.

The meeting was held in conjunction with the 2025 Session of the Nordic Council, which Sweden and the Riksdag are hosting.

Nordic Council of Ministers

2025 Session of the Nordic Council

The Session of the Nordic Council is the largest political summit in the Nordic region. Every year, it brings together parliament speakers, parliamentarians, prime ministers, heads of government, ministers for Nordic affairs and foreign ministers from all of the Nordic countries.
