18.4 Special rules for EU/EEA citizens

As an EU/EEA or Swiss citizen, you are entitled to health care under the same health scheme as those who are insured and reside in Sweden, provided that you can present a certificate from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency.

To obtain such a certificate from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, you must send an S1 (formerly E106) certificate issued by your national health authority to the Swedish Social Insurance Agency. If your national health authority uses the certificate S1, you must include information about your family members who also live in Sweden during the period in which the S1 certificate is valid in a separate letter. Please apply for the S1 certificate from the national health authority in your country of residence prior to arrival in Sweden.

When visiting a health care facility, a fixed administrative fee will be charged, which varies between counties and municipalities.
