Sweden enters into security cooperation agreement with Ukraine

The agreement is based on Sweden’s overall military and civil support to Ukraine totalling more than SEK 105 billion in 2022–2026.

“Ukraine is not just fighting for its own freedom, but also for our freedom,” said Mr Kristersson in connection with the signing.

The focus of the agreement is military support, but it also covers other areas. Sweden will contribute to Ukraine’s reconstruction and support reforms and preparations for its future EU and NATO membership, respectively. Sweden will also support efforts to holding Russia accountable for its crimes in and against Ukraine.

Mr Kristersson and Mr Zelenskyy signed the agreement in connection with the Nordic-Ukrainian Summit currently taking place in Stockholm.

Later today, a press conference will be held at Rosenbad with Mr Kristersson, Mr Zelenskyy, Finland’s President Alexander Stubb, Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

Sweden is one of approximately 30 countries that have signed the Joint Declaration of Support for Ukraine, which the G7, the EU and Ukraine agreed on in Vilnius in July 2023. Sweden’s agreement on security cooperation with Ukraine is a result of that declaration.
