Sweden contributes SEK 600 million to US military equipment support package to Ukraine

Sweden is contributing around SEK 600 million to the US-initiated Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL). Together with other Nordic and Baltic countries, Sweden is helping to fund an overall package worth a total of USD 500 million. The funds are part of support packages for Ukraine that were previously communicated.
“The contribution strengthens Ukraine’s air defence capabilities and its defence against Russia. Russia poses a threat to Europe, and Sweden will continue to act together with others through financial, military and humanitarian means to support Ukraine and protect Europe,” says Minister for Defence Pål Jonson.
Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Sweden has provided around SEK 90 billion in military support to Ukraine. Some of these funds have gone to funds and initiatives from other countries.
The Government has now decided to mandate the Swedish Armed Forces to contribute USD 60 million to a support package as part of the PURL initiative. Together with other Nordic and Baltic countries, Sweden is thus funding a support package worth a total of USD 500 million. This is the second time Sweden has contributed to PURL. In August, Sweden provided USD 275 million for a support package together with Denmark and Norway.
Within the PURL initiative, the United States makes high-priority US defence equipment available via support packages funded by Allies. These packages include air defence systems and ammunition. The initiative is administered by NATO.
