A concerted approach to intellectual property will strengthen Swedish innovative capacity and competitiveness
Published
The Government has presented its publication ‘A concerted approach to intellectual property’. This is part of the Government’s effort to strengthen Sweden’s innovative capacity and competitiveness and to promote and secure a rich cultural offering, both nationally and globally.
Sweden is currently one of the most innovative countries in the world, with successful actors in its knowledge-intensive, cultural and creative industries. Significant value is created for the economy through intellectual property assets such as company names, product names, business models, designs, research findings, technical solutions and cultural expression. In this context, the protection of intellectual property through patents, copyright and trademarks play a crucial role. Strategic management and effective protection of intellectual property assets are prerequisites for innovation, competitiveness, growth and prosperity.
Over the past year, the Government has held roundtable discussions and meetings with many of the stakeholders in the innovation system. These discussions have made it clear that there is a need for closer collaboration between the public sector, academia and the business sector. As part of its efforts in this area, the Government is now presenting its publication ‘A concerted approach to intellectual property’.
In this publication, the Government has chosen to highlight three overarching focus areas for continued work that are seen as particular priorities in order to achieve its goals. The focus areas are:
- Strategic management of intellectual property assets
- Increased knowledge of intellectual property rights
- Enhanced dialogue between actors and a consolidated approach at the Government Offices
The Government is continuing its efforts to strengthen Swedish innovative capacity and competitiveness, and to ensure that Sweden maintains its position as a leading innovation nation.
