5.3 Vacant head of mission

In the absence of an accredited head of mission, a chargé d'affaires ad interim will act provisionally as head of mission. Prior to departing from Sweden, the head of mission should notify the Protocol Department at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the name of the chargé d'affaires ad interim.

If such notification is not possible, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the sending State should notify the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the appointment of the chargé d'affaires ad interim.
