Pål Jonson signs Joint Declaration on defence cooperation with Czech Republic
Mr Pål Jonson, Minister for Defence, Sweden, today had a bilateral meeting with Ms Jana Černochová, Minister for Defence, Czech Republic, during the security conference GLOBSEC Forum, which is taking place from 30 August to 1 September in Prague. A Joint Declaration on the Enhancement of Defence Cooperation was signed.

Swedish Prime Minister to receive HH the Amir of Qatar
On 2–3 September, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson will receive the Amir of the State of Qatar, HH Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, in Stockholm. The visit will focus on developing Sweden and Qatar’s cooperation in areas such as green transition, infrastructure and health care. It will also provide an opportunity to discuss current foreign policy issues.

Sweden’s support to the civilian population in crisis-affected Sudan
A full-scale civil war has been ongoing in Sudan since April 2023. The war exacerbates an already serious political, economic and humanitarian crisis. Sudan is among the countries receiving the most support from Sweden in 2024. This support includes development and humanitarian assistance to the people of Sudan. Sweden also supports ongoing diplomatic efforts for a ceasefire.

Swedish economy in recession, but brighter prospects ahead
Inflation in Sweden is slightly below the 2 per cent target. At the same time, economic activity is weak. The Swedish economy is in recession, but recovery is around the corner. These are the conclusions of a new economic forecast by the Ministry of Finance. The Government’s efforts to build a stronger Swedish economy continue. According to Minister for Finance Elisabeth Svantesson, reforms in the forthcoming autumn budget are expected to amount to around SEK 60 billion.

Sweden has more emigrants than immigrants for the first time in half a century
Last year’s trend of fewer asylum seekers in Sweden and fewer residence permits granted continues. According to the Swedish Migration Agency’s prognosis, Sweden is on track to have the lowest number of asylum seekers since 1997 and, for the first time in over 50 years, Sweden has net emigration.
