Criminal careers must be stopped
Organised crime has grown rapidly and extensively. Far too many individuals in today’s Sweden seem to see a criminal life as a norm and an identity. This trend must be stopped.
Besides broad social preventive efforts, specific initiatives must be taken that target people who are at risk of being involved in crime. In cases where offences have already been committed, they must lead to prosecution at a higher rate than currently, with commensurate penalties, and measures need to be implemented to prevent reoffending.
Objective
Sweden will increase its capacity to prevent and ultimately to stop criminal careers. The number of individuals in criminal milieux and the number of criminal networks will be reduced.
Shortcut
Work towards this objective includes:
- reducing the risk for repeated criminality.
- increasing the prosecution of serious offences in criminal milieux
- improving social protection and reducing the risk of reoffending
