Task force for Jewish life in Sweden

The Government’s task force for Jewish life in Sweden was presented in January 2023. The working group collaborates and conducts dialogue on preventive measures and efforts to improve the conditions for Jewish life and prevent and combat antisemitism in Sweden.   • Task force for Jewish life in Sweden has meeting at Swedish Police Authority

    The Government’s task force for Jewish life in Sweden gathered for its first meeting of the year on 30 January. On this occasion, it was held at the Swedish Police Authority’s premises in Kungsholmen, Stockholm. The meeting was attended by Minister for Justice Gunnar Strömmer, National Police Commissioner Petra Lundh and representatives of the Swedish Institute for Human Rights and the National Agency for Education.

  • Government seeks to highlight civilian action along Swedish-Norwegian border during the Holocaust

    In connection with Holocaust Remembrance Day on 27 January 2026, the Government decided to task the Living History Forum with highlighting civilian action along the Swedish-Norwegian border to assist those escaping Norway to Sweden during the Holocaust. The assignment will draw attention to traces of the Holocaust as part of the Swedish-Jewish cultural heritage.

    “Sweden and Norway are connected in so many ways. Especially through all those brave civilians on both sides of the border who put their lives on the line to heroically rescue Jews, resistance fighters and others who needed to flee from Nazi-occupied Norway to Sweden. This assignment will allow witness accounts and traces of what happened to be highlighted and made more widely known, and shed new light on our shared history during the Holocaust. It will also demonstrate the significance of civil courage in dark times,” says Minister for Culture Parisa Liljestrand.

Task force for Jewish life – working group

In the task force for Jewish life in Sweden working group, state secretaries from six ministries collaborate and conduct dialogue on preventive measures and efforts to improve the conditions for Jewish life and prevent and combat antisemitism in Sweden.

Three civil society organisations take part in the task force: the Official Council of Swedish Jewish Communities, Judiska Ungdomsförbundet (the Jewish Youth Association) and the Swedish Committee Against Antisemitism. In addition to the state secretaries and the three civil society organisations, the task force includes representatives of relevant public authorities and organisations and other experts.

State Secretary to the Prime Minister Johan Stuart leads the task force.

Sweden’s first national strategy to strengthen Jewish life and combat antisemitism

The Swedish Government has adopted a national strategy to strengthen Jewish life and combat antisemitism. This strategy will provide a structure for national efforts in the period 2025–2034. The objective is to lay the foundations for more targeted and coordinated efforts and create better conditions for Jewish life in Sweden.

A collaborative working group on the conditions for the Jewish minority in Sweden

The Swedish Government has decided to appoint a collaborative working group on the conditions for the Jewish minority. The aim is to vigorously combat antisemitism and to strengthen the conditions for Jewish life in Sweden.

Action programme to combat antisemitism

The action programmes intend to complement the National plan to combat racism, similar forms of hostility and hate crime, and include both measures aimed at bringing to light and combating each form of racism, and measures aimed at combating racism at large.
