On 31 March 2026, Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard is taking part in an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers.
Ukrainian Minister for Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha is hosting the EU foreign ministers. The agenda for the informal meeting includes Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, Russia’s accountability and veteran issues. Together with Croatia, Sweden has worked to highlight the situation of Ukrainian veterans.
“I look forward to discussions in Ukraine on the situation in the war and the conditions for a just peace. Accountability is a fundamental part of this, and so too is the importance of being able to fully reintegrate veterans in society. This is something Sweden supports,” says Ms Malmer Stenergard.
The ministers are also visiting Bucha, the scene of extensive war crimes committed by Russian occupying forces in 2022. The ministers will also attend the inauguration of the European Policy Institute in Kyiv, a think tank established by the Stockholm Centre for Eastern European Studies at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs with funding from the EU and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.
