13.4 Construction and alteration of real estate
Missions are obliged to respect local regulations concerning building permits. Before acquiring a property with the aim of new construction, it is advisable to consult the local building committee.
A building permit must be obtained for the following:
- new construction,
- alterations of existing buildings, and
- building walls or close-boarded fences.
A building permit may also be necessary if the property's use is changed, e.g. from residence to offices.
Certain modifications of an existing structure require notification.
A demolition permit is required for demolition.
For more comprehensive measures, such as excavation, a site improvement permit is required.
Applications and notifications are submitted to Stockholm city planning office. Information can be found in English on the website of the Municipality.
