Initiatives from other countries
Updated
Sweden contributes to several initiatives that various countries have undertaken in support of Ukraine.
German air defence project
The Immediate Action on Air Defence initiative led by Germany aims to support Ukraine’s air defence with donations of various air defence systems and to assist the countries that have chosen to donate air defence systems to Ukraine through joint funding. Sweden expressed interest in participating in the initiative in late 2024 and has thus far given SEK 300 million to help Romania replace the Patriot system components that it donated to Ukraine.
Czech ammunition initiative
To contribute to Ukraine’s defence against Russia’s war of aggression, Czechia has taken the initiative to purchase large volumes of ammunition with short delivery times in the global market, and additional countries can provide funding.
In March 2024, the Government decided that Sweden would contribute to the Czech initiative by providing approximately EUR 30 million in support. This contribution was part of Sweden’s 15th military support package to Ukraine.

Danish model
The Danish model aims to support procurement of materiel that Ukraine needs from the Ukrainian defence industry. This model also includes financial support for other procurements of materiel for Ukraine.
It includes mechanisms that ensure that the funds donated are used effectively, and Ukraine provides feedback about its experiences using the materiel delivered.
By increasing production in Ukraine, the collective European industrial base will also be strengthened. A strong defence industrial base is needed to address the major needs brought on by the war in Ukraine, and for European countries to be able to build up their own defence capability.
In October 2024, the Government decided to donate approximately SEK 720 million in financial support to Ukraine via the Danish model as part of Sweden’s 17th military support package.
On 20 February 2025, the Government decided to provide an additional SEK 2 billion in financial support via the Danish model as part of Sweden’s 18th military support package.
On 22 May 2025, the Government decided once again to give financial support to Ukraine via the Danish model as part of Sweden’s 19th military support package to Ukraine. This support will amount to over SEK 1 billion for the procurement of materiel from the Ukrainian defence industry. Sweden will also provide approximately SEK 418 million to co-finance procurement of materiel to support the build-up of Ukraine’s ground combat capability. The funds will be disbursed by the Swedish Armed Forces to the competent authority in Denmark.
