The Government has decided to establish a consulate-general in Houston, Texas and upgrade the Consulate-General in Brussels to an embassy. The aim of these reinforcements is to help boost growth, strengthen Swedish competitiveness and make Sweden more attractive as a country to invest in by improving conditions for trade, investment and innovation.

On 28–29 January, Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard visited Colombia together with a business delegation focused on mining and energy. The visit took place in the capital of Bogotá and the department of Chocó on Colombia’s Pacific Coast and highlights Sweden’s far-reaching cooperation with Colombia.

On 30–31 January 2025, Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard visited Peru together with a business delegation. The visit highlights Sweden’s good relations and mutual trade interests with Peru.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard is visiting Peru on 30–31 January. Her visit will include a meeting with Peru’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmer Schialer. Ms Malmer Stenergard will also host the Sweden Peru Mining Summit at which Government representatives, companies and agencies from Sweden and Peru will discuss sustainable mining and the green transition.

On 28 January, Sweden signed a bilateral law enforcement agreement with Colombia during Maria Malmer Stenergard’s visit to Colombia.

On 21 January 2025, Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard and Minister for Justice Gunnar Strömmer travelled to Ankara to launch Sweden and Türkiye’s bilateral security dialogue, Security Compact. In talks with their Turkish counterparts, joint efforts to combat terrorism and cross-border organised crime and current international affairs were discussed.
