Sweden in the UN: Supporting Ukraine

Published

Strengthening and maintaining support for Ukraine at the UN and holding Russia accountable for its war of aggression is one of the Government’s top priorities. The Government is contributing to UN efforts aimed at concerted action against Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Supporting Ukraine is the Government’s top foreign and development assistance policy priority. Within the UN, Sweden contributes to joint efforts for Ukraine and to limit Russia’s influence. This may involve coordination and communication ahead of resolution votes, debates in the Security Council and the General Assembly, and various elections in the UN. In meetings with countries from all over the world, Sweden consistently advocates for support for Ukraine in the UN, holding Russia accountable and the importance of complying with the UN Charter’s prohibition of the use of force and respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty.
