Swedish economy burdened by uncertainty but recovery expected to resume in the coming months

Photo: Viktor Thörnblad Svensson/Government Offices Growth of the Swedish economy has been burdened by geopolitical uncertainty during the first half of 2025, and we are still in a period of recession. At the same time, recovery is expected to resume in the coming months and continue at a steady pace next year. Minister for Finance Elisabeth Svantesson has presented a new forecast on the economic outlook.

The Government received Peru’s Minister of Defence and Minister of Foreign Affairs at Karlberg Palace
On 27 August, Minister for Defence Pål Jonson and Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard received Peru’s Minister of Defence Walter Astudillo and Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmer Schialer for meetings and lunch at Karlberg Palace in Stockholm.

Ukraine’s Independence Day
Ukraine marks its Independence Day on 24 August. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Sweden has provided extensive military, humanitarian and other civilian support to Ukraine. Sweden also provides economic support, assistance with civilian crisis management and support to Ukraine’s reform efforts and reconstruction. Together with the EU, Sweden has also decided on extensive macroeconomic support initiatives and several sanctions packages against Russia.
Sweden supports Ukraine’s efforts to achieve a fair and sustainable peace based on international law and the UN Charter.

Maria Malmer Stenergard taking part in meeting of Nordic foreign ministers in Finland
On 18–19 August, Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard is travelling to Nuuksio in Finland to take part in a meeting of Nordic foreign ministers. Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand will also participate in the meeting.
A joint press conference will be held after the meeting. Time: Tuesday 19 August, 12.20–12.45 (13.20–13.45 Finnish time)
